During my 38 years in the fire service, I have seen many tragedies, as a result of fire.

Also, as co-founder and vice-chairman of The Firefighters’ Burn Fund Inc., I have seen the long-term effects that burn survivors go through, because of a fire.

I believe, that one of the most important assets a person can obtain, is education. Prevention, is the key to “Staying Alive”.

Shane Ferguson, a personal friend, and a member of The Firefighters’ Burn Fund Inc., and a front line firefighter, has taken a giant step, towards the goal of educating the public on “Staying Alive”.

Shane is responsible for a program called “Staying Alive”. www.stayingalive.ca and for a C.D. called “The Great Escape”. The C.D. is an awesome interactive game that teaches children how to deal with fire, plan an escape route, and get out safely.

The public needs to get educated on how to deal with fire situations, and Shane has accomplished just this type of education, in his program. The Firefighters’ Burn Fund Inc. is proud to have donated monies to help the program get started and to help with the translation of the C.D. into French.

A tragic event, gave Shane the incentive to accomplish his personal goal, of getting the information and education out to every single home, and I don’t believe he will stop until that goal is reached.

I am a strong supporter of the program that Shane has developed, and highly recommend it for a tool of education. Great job Shane, and I am very proud of you and of all your hard and dedicated work that you have put into this program.
